Window in Dome ceiling

The Vatican Museum is full of beautiful sculptures and paintings, most of which you see on the ceiling. The light that comes through this dome shaped sculpted ceiling creates an effect that is almost magical.

The works of art fill every square inch of the ceiling, room after room, corridor after corridor. I can help but feel that people from centuries back appreciate art more than we do now, and actually spend more time and effort on producing it than we do do today, in our modern times of technological progress. In those days, art is about life, it depicts life. In the last century, art has become more extract. Is it because our life has become more complicated? Does more technology mean less appreciation of life?
